Linkong Biomedical Park: A Masterpiece of Science and Design

Wsp Architects' Award-Winning Design Merges Functionality and Aesthetic

Linkong Biomedical Park, a unique blend of science and design, stands as a testament to the innovative prowess of Wsp Architects. This multifunctional office space, inspired by the double-helix DNA structure, is a landmark in Henan Province, China, and a beacon of biomedical technology and industrial ecology.

Wsp Architects drew inspiration from the "source of life" - the double-helix DNA structure, a symbol of the biomedical industry. The park, spanning 200,000 square meters, is divided into two zones by a central landscape belt, maximizing usage efficiency and reflecting the scientific nature of the layout. The design is a harmonious blend of science, technology, and a vision of the future.

The Linkong Biomedical Park is the largest life science and biotechnology R&D and production innovation and entrepreneurship base in Henan Province. It boasts a range of facilities including an incubation experiment comprehensive center, pilot production group, large-scale production plant, exclusive logistics system, exhibition center, and living facilities. The design's uniqueness lies in its ability to solve the technical problems of biomedical research and production technology, such as specific floor height, column span, structural load, and safe discharge of waste water.

With a total construction area of 250,133 square meters, the park includes a variety of facilities such as a high-level R&D office, general laboratory, animal laboratory, conference and catering center, and living facilities. The park also features an underground garage and equipment room, along with distribution facilities and a sewage treatment station. The highest building height is 80m, providing ample space for research and development activities.

The design team, led by Nelson Tam, Sun Zhe, and Weng Jinfan, among others, started the project in March 2017 in Zhengzhou, Henan, China, and completed it in September 2020. The team faced the challenge of combining planning and design principles with the demands of scientific research and production technology in the biomedical industry. Their creative solution presents the distinctive characteristics of biomedicine, a high-tech field, from practical to aesthetic aspects.

The Linkong Biomedical Park design has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021. This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics. This accolade is a testament to the innovative design and functionality of the Linkong Biomedical Park, a landmark in biomedical technology and industrial ecology.
